Our
Mission:
“To Equip God's Family to Serve and
to Save the Families in Our Community”
The Great Commission:
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority
in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go
therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy
Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded
you. And behold, I am with you always, to the
end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
The Great Commandment:
Jesus answered, The most important is, 'Hear,
O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And
you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
and with all your soul, and with all your mind and with
all your strength.' The second is this: 'You shall
love your neighbor as yourself.
To these ends we dedicate all our efforts and ministries
of the Golden congregation. We invite you to be a part
of this great work for our Lord Jesus Christ.
Our Vision:
- We will have a focused, effective missionary and
evangelistic program at home and globally.
- We will provide support for the various groups who
make up the congregation at Golden.
- We will provide adequate facilities to meet the
spiritual and physical needs of a growing congregation.
- We will provide a biblically sound, spiritually
vibrant, life-changing worship.
- We will provide for the involvement of every member
in a meaningful ministry that meets the needs of that
member, the kingdom, and the world.
Our Church Today:
The Golden congregation has always felt that it was
important to reach out to the world. It has supported
such works as Mountain States Children's Home, Colorado
Christian Services and students at Bear Valley School
of Biblical Studies. In the past, it has supported the
work of the Ed Hull family in Canada and the James Bell
family in the West Indies. Presently it supports the
work of Franco
Verardi in Lattiano, Italy; and carries a high level
of interest in work being done in Albania.
The Golden church of Christ is a vibrant family of
believers made up of approximately 100 families who
live in the Golden and Denver, Colorado area. We offer
a complete Christian education and worship program which
includes youth and college activities, LIFE (Love, Involvement,
Fellowship, Evangelism) groups, evangelism, counseling,
training, family support and senior programs. To learn
more about some of the areas, you may want to visit
these locations on our website:
We believe the Bible to be the inspired word of God
and our ultimate source for doctrine and fellowship.
We are not a part of any denomination and strive to
live according to God's teachings in the Bible in all
that we do. We invite those who live in the area
and visitors from all over the world to come worship
with us!
Our History:
Although there are some records that the church of
Christ existed in Golden, Colorado in the 1800's, the
present church began meeting in the basement of the
First National Bank at 13th and Jackson in February
of 1962. Their facilities included a small auditorium-type
room and a cloakroom served as a children's Bible classroom.
Sunday and midweek evening services were held in the
homes of members. Charter members included: Glenn, Edith
and Paul Thomas; Tawny Sheridan; Olaine and Charles
Petty; Chip Jones; Kyle Tudor; Dennis, Emma, Steve and
Stan Piety. Paul Thomas served as preacher and Charles
Petty led the singing.
From June to October of 1966 the congregation met at
the Golden Savings and Loan building. At that time,
the congregation purchased a permanent facility at 1509
Ulysses. Growth was rapid and a new building was completed
on the present location in January of 1970. New classrooms
were added by building an upper level in 1977 and the
auditorium was expanded in 1982. During 1999, a major
remodel and expansion was completed. The congregation
celebrated this achievement and its 30th anniversary
with a Homecoming weekend in May of 2000.
In addition to Paul Thomas, the congregation has been
blessed with several full-time preachers. They include:
Don Cavasses, Homer Wolfe, Jr., Douglas Perkins, Joe
W. Smith, Don Canter, Warren Wilcox and Hoyt Beasley.
Rick Walker has served the congregation since 1991.
David Lange, Bret Carter and Lonnie Milligan have served
as youth ministers in the past.
